THE PROBLEM

High school athletic programs in Douglas County face a critical care gap known as the 1:900 problem—one athletic trainer responsible for roughly 900 student-athletes each season. This overwhelming ratio forces impossible decisions, like choosing between covering a state-required game at a stadium or supervising a high-contact football practice at school. At the same time, that single professional must manage injuries, concussion protocols, medical documentation, rehabilitation coordination, and daily coverage. The result is a system stretched beyond safe limits, putting athlete health, response time, and injury prevention at risk.

Beyond Numbers:
The CHART solution

CHART exists to solve this problem. Through community and private support, we fund additional licensed athletic trainers, improve compensation to match statewide standards, and expand coverage so athletes receive the care they deserve when and where they need it. We also help families access medical services—such as physician visits, imaging, and rehabilitation—when insurance falls short, and we invest in youth event coverage, nutrition education, and performance training scholarships. By strengthening resources around athletic programs, we create safer environments, stronger support systems, and healthier outcomes for every athlete.
